Exercises For Sciatica Treatment

by on Sep.01, 2010, under Life

This therapy is commonly used in treating lasting back syndrome. It involves regimes that range from targeted isometric workouts and aqua therapy, to cardio exercises. Exercises for sciatica are designed to build up the not so strong areas at the lower back and the injured parts. The result is sciatic pain relief from the other symptoms usually accompany it slowly. It is however of importance to note that despite the fact that physical therapy can work well, it can cause the symptoms to worsen. Another great set of exercises for sciatica are self-help exercises. They are usually made of common activities like walking, running, swimming, tai chi, leg and back work outs, as well as yoga, just to list the prominent. These exercises address the disease using a theory similar to the professional physical therapy which states that the pain is as a result of known or unknown structural tissues. As a common treatment for sciatica, the physical therapy approach may not cure sciatic pain in in too serious cases according to most doctors. However, Dr. John Sarno, an experienced back pain doctor, thinks otherwise. He argues that exercise boosts the flow of blood to the injury area therefore increasing the concentration of oxygen, which decreases the pain. In cases where the patient sees a slight relief from pain after undergoing the sciatica exercises, ischemia, a tissue that is not structural is very likely a hindrance to healing. This is believed to be a psychogenetic related syndrome which makes the sciatica pain treatment difficult. Patients who still feel pain after specific activities may have been not correctly diagnosed or have a back pain condition which is purely due to psychogenesis, a condition that is linked to psychological issues and not necessarily a physical complication. This, as I hinted before, complicates the healing process of the slipped disk. There are other methods used by qualified doctors to correctly diagnose this symptoms.
